Abstract

Known for the hacker group Anonymous, Pizzagate or the QAnon conspiracy theory, the English-language Internet platform 4chan.org is a mystery. Anyone with Internet access can post, the users are anonymous, their contributions are ephemeral and the content is not moderated. Despite the resulting uncertainty of expectations, communication organizes itself and casts itself in ideal-typical patterns. Using systems theory assumptions, Christina Laut-Berger models the communication structures of 4chan.org using an innovative, network-analytical research design and thus contributes to fundamental research on digital sociality.
