About me

Currently, I am a research associate at the Institute of Sociology for Chair of Methods of Empirical Social Research, held by Prof. Thomas Grund. My research focus is on international students’ navigation of immigration requirements in Europe. With over ten years of professional work experience at International Offices in the UK and Ireland, I obtained first-hand, practical knowledge of international students’ challenges while simultaneously observing a lack of academic research on students’ experiences, with respect to the visa navigation process. This absence of academic knowledge on administrative obstacles around visa application, registration and monitoring, and the inequalities these challenges produce within student populations, which I observed in my professional career, prompted me to conduct my own academic study. While simultaneously working full-time as a university manager, I completed my PhD at University of Sussex (thesis title: “Strange encounters in UK Higher Education: understanding the experiences of visa required international students”) in August 2023. Coming from an applied work environment in higher education, I am driven by the profound need for scientific studies to foster change and address injustices in the higher education sector, especially with regards to international students. At the same time, successfully navigating postgraduate studies in challenging circumstances myself, nurtured my ambition and passion to instigate change through an academic career.
