Studies
After Studying?
A course of study with a focus on theories qualifies graduates for different professional fields.
These include non-university research, research and teaching at universities and technical colleges, policy advice, organizational consulting, and public relations work.
Non-University Research
For example, at the GESIS Leibniz Institute for Social Sciences or the Social Science Research Center Berlin. Sociological theories are, in addition to methods, the basic equipment of social science research. Non-university research institutions see themselves as scientific service providers and usually assign third-party-funded positions.
Typical projects are:
- Theoretical and empirical analysis of causes and changes of family poverty in Germany, 1962 to 2009 (GESIS)
- Sociology Information Service (FiD)
- Project Globalisation, Work and Production (WZB)
- Project The Political Sociology of Cosmopolitanism and Communitarianism (WZB)
Research and Teaching at Universities and Technical Colleges
Deepening of Focal Points
If you are planning to pursue an academic career in the field of sociological theories, it is necessary that you look for a focus in a theory, at best in an area of application.
Examples of this are:
- sociology of crime
- terrorist research
- Digital Society
In addition, you can also choose further qualification through doctoral studies. Here you can find further information on further qualification in the field of sociological theories.
Alternatively or in addition, graduate schools/doctoral colleges as well as subject-based or general scholarships are available.
