Research Projects

The Team for Sociology and Gender and Life Course Research works on a variety of projects whose breadth in total covers the range of experience of men and women from childhood to old age, in international comparison.

A growing focus is Gender in German educational institutions of higher learning. Another growing focus is gender and leadership.

Our current and recently completed project involvements:

  • Job Mobility and Family Lives. EU Project based at the University of Mainz.

This project studies the job-related physical mobility of Europeans in six countries: Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, Poland, France, and Spain.  For more information, please see:http://www.jobmob-and-famlives.eu/
Heather Hofmeister is Associate Project Member.

  • Männlichkeit in Germany.  Cooperation with Jr. Prof. Nina Baur, TU Berlin

Based on a 2006 survey of men and women in 30 communities in Germany, we study various aspects of the social construction and expectations on masculinity and men’s lives.

  • Gender in University Professorships

Here an extensive study of RWTH Aachen uses qualitative and quantitative data to answer the question, why are there so few women in particular at RWTH Aachen in higher levels of professorships and leadership?
